Debutant Jayden Meghoma was the star of the show as Pompey claimed a much-needed 2-0 win over Cardiff.
The Brentford loanee was outstanding from left-back, although goals from Conor Shaughnessy and Marko Milovanovic earned the Blues victory.
Admittedly, there were plenty of nervy defensive moments for John Mousinho’s men in a match which was wide open at both ends - and they could have easily added to their total.
But the win was theirs on a day when Fratton Park paid tribute to Pompey legend Alan Knight following his passing.
And here are our Pompey player ratings...

2. Daniel Bielica - 8
Bounced back from a forgettable debut to show his true ability. Excellent saves from Tanner and then Salech around the 60-minute mark, then a great flying stop from Ng in stoppage time. | Jason Brown

3. Terry Devlin - 7
Still not quite at last season’s levels and struggled at times in the second half. Still, Devlin plays with such heart and desire that he never gives or surrenders. | Jason Brown

4. Benjy Arthur - 8
Misjudged a couple of headers, but really looks to have something about him and is growing into the team. Comfortable on the ball, unflappable and relishes a tackle. | Jason Brown
