The Blues travel east along the A27 to the Amex Stadium in the second round of the Carabao Cup (7.45pm kick off).

It’s the first time both clubs have met in a competitive match since March 2012, when the Seagulls won 2-0 in the Championship.

The meeting also represents Potter’s first head-to-head battle with his opposite number with something at stake.

Friendlies between both clubs have been common place in recent years, with the last taking place just a few weeks ago when the Premier League side ran out 3-0 winners.

That’s given Potter an idea of what to expect from their League Cup opponents as they look for a positive result following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Monday.

But the Brighton boss is also aware of Jackett’s ‘fantastic’ achievements in the game, including two promotions at former clubs Wolves and Millwall.

As a result, he won’t be underestimating his counterpart and his team going into tonight’s match.

Potter said: ‘It'll be a tough game.

‘We played them in pre-season and I have a lot of respect for Kenny.

‘He has fantastic experience as a manager, across all the divisions.

‘His teams are well-organised, hard to beat and attack in a clear way.

‘It will be a difficult game against a team fighting for the next round.’

Pompey are hopeful Bryn Morris will be available for the trip to the Amex, after the midfielder came off with a hip injury in Saturday’s goalless draw with Shrewsbury.

Keeper Alex Bass remains absent with ankle bruising, while Callum Johnson is cup-tied having played for Accrington against Burton in the previous round.

New-signing Michael Jacobs will be in the Pompey squad, although is unlikely to feature from the outset.

Brighton are expected to make a host of changes from the side that lost to Chelsea.

Adam Lallana (calf) and Ben White (ankle) will definitely not feature.

But Dutch international Davy Propper will have his first competitive run-out of the season after his recovery from an Achillies problem.

Joel Veltman, Dan Burn, Bernardo, Dale Stephens, Jayson Molumby, Pascal Gross, Alexis Mac Allister and Ali Jahanbakhsh are all likely to play, too.

Under-23s Max Sanders, Haydon Roberts, former Blues target Alex Cochrane, Romaric Yapi, Peter Gwargis and Viktor Gyökeres have all been training with the first team and are in contention.
