The midfielder arrived on loan from the Premier League heavyweights on Monday for the remainder of the season.

It’s White's first spell away from Spurs as he bids to gain regular senior experience at Fratton Park.

The 19-year-old has made two appearances off the bench for the Blues so far.

He was given a cameo in the 4-0 win over AFC Wimbledon before coming on at half-time in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Hull City on Saturday.

White faces a challenge to dislodge regular duo Tom Naylor and Andy Cannon in Kenny Jackett’s engine room.

Ben Close is also pushing for a starting spot and now George Byers – who has arrived from Swansea – provides further competition.

But White insists the onus is on him to win a place in Pompey’s team – and he’s determined to do so.

He said: ‘Cannon and Naylor are great players. They've been very welcoming and I can learn off them.

‘I can learn more by playing with them because I’m still young.

‘Spurs believe in me. They wanted me to come here because they wanted me to fight for my place.

‘At the end of the day, it’s football and you’ve got to fight for your place. You’ve got to show why you should be in the team.

‘It’s up to me to make sure I’m playing. I give 100 per cent in training every day so it's up to me to show I should be starting.

‘The club won’t call up and say that (why isn’t he playing).

‘George has arrived now and it’s healthy competition. Hopefully we can learn off each other.’
