Kenny Jackett revealed the giant American keeper is staying with the Blues as they continue to run the rule over him, after his arrival on trial last week.

And the 21-year-old's chance could come tonight if Pompey’s final Premier League Cup match with Aston Villa doesn’t fall foul of the weather.

Jackett and his staff have been impressed by the 6ft 7in talent since linking up with the first team.

Turnbull was last month drafted by Houston Dynamo in the third round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, after graduating from the University of Notre Dame.

Pompey are short on goalkeeping options with only senior pair Alex Bass and Craig MacGillivray to call on, after Luke McGee departed for Bradford.

Jackett and goalkeeping coach John Keeley are looking to see Turnbull in a match environment after making a decent impact in training.

The Pompey boss said: ‘Duncan’s still here.

‘We’d definitely like to have a look at him in a game.

‘The situation is ongoing and he will be here this week.

‘He looks okay. He’s looked decent in training so it’s ongoing and we’ll try to work him towards a game.

‘He’s a good size, seems a good lad and John Keeley, who’s in charge of that department, has been impressed with him so far.’

Pompey are waiting to hear if the Villa clash will go ahead, with the match due to be played at Bognor’s Nyewood Lane (7pm).

More rain is forcecasted through the day and there is the added consideration of the Rocks being due to face Brighton at home in the Sussex County Cup on Wednesday night.

Jackett added: ‘It may to be tough to schedule us and play on it themselves Wednesday.’
