The left-back moved to Fratton Park on a season-long loan in September.

Pring’s made a favourable impression on the south coast, featuring 15 times during the Blues’ League One promotion push.

However, City hold a recall option on the defender from Monday, with reports in Bristol suggesting that clause could be activated.

The Championship outfit currently have full-back Jay Dasilva out injured – and Pring’s potential return would ease their problems in that department.

The 22-year-old was due to start today’s trip to Accrington as Lee Brown waits on the green light to feature following a hamstring injury.

Should Pring head back to Ashton Gate then Pompey will need to recruit a fresh face to compete with Brown on the left-hand side of defence.

And while Jackett wants to the Cheltenham-born ace to remain at PO4 for the remainder of the campaign, the Blues are prepared should they need to find a replacement.

The boss said: ‘Cam is with us at the moment and was set to play at Accrington.

‘We will have to see what next week brings. He is with us at the moment, I can't speak for Bristol City next week and where they are and what they'll say.

‘He should have been playing Saturday and we will just have to react if or when it happens.

‘It's out of our hands and that's always the case with loan players and they can be recalled.

‘We will see what next week brings. Cam Pring is a good young player and has played well for us during the time he's had.

‘It'll be the first week in January when he could be recalled.’

Pring’s mainly been second choice to Brown in League One when both have been fit.

However, the ex-Walsall has started the past two games in the third tier while Brown’s been injured.

Jackett’s been pleased how Pring has adapted to the demands of representing a side pushing for the Championship.

And despite Brown having made a recovery from his hamstring setback, he now must dislodge Pring for the starting spot.

Jackett added: ‘Cameron has probably played more games than Lee, I would think and has the shirt at the moment.

‘He is playing well at the moment and I've been pleased with his contributions. Cameron Pring is a good, young player.’
