Portsmouth and Oxford both hit with four-figure fines following post-match melee

Pompey have been hit with a £2,500 fine for ‘failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion’ after their 1-1 draw with Oxford United.

And the U’s have been slapped with the same punishment for their involvement in the melee last week.

A post-match fracas erupted following the final whistle of the League One fixture at Fratton Park.

Kenny Jackett admitted he expected Pompey to be charged by the FA for their involvement in the skirmish.

And while the Blues contested the penalty they were given, it proved unsuccessful.

An FA spokesperson said: ‘Portsmouth FC and Oxford United FC have been fined £2,500 for a breach of FA Rule E20 that followed their EFL League One fixture on Tuesday 24 November 2020.

‘Both clubs admitted failing to ensure that their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion on the field of play at the end of the fixture.

‘The standard penalty was accepted by Oxford United FC and unsuccessfully contested by Portsmouth FC during a subsequent independent Regulatory Commission hearing.’
