‘It’s just the beginning’: Portsmouth favourite makes exciting admission after gutsy Norwich City draw

Pompey came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Norwich City this afternoon.

Regan Poole has insisted Pompey’s draw against Norwich City is ‘just the beginning’ as they prepare for a huge Championship run-in.

And the popular Welshman is adamant his side got exactly what they deserved after grabbing a valuable draw at Carrow Road.

Pompey summer target Pelle Mattsson netted a 27th-minute opener for Phillipe Clement’s outfit, capitalising on poor defending from the visitors.

And Poole was proud of the Blues’ second-half display, and insisted his side deserved what they got.

Norwich draw ‘just the beginning for Pompey’

‘It’s the least we deserved,’ he said.

‘We knew we had to change from the previous game, we had to be more compact, we had to be more direct and we did that brilliantly.

‘Listen, it wasn’t our best performance but we had a job to do and I think we done that.

We got exactly what we deserved out of the game and realistically speaking, we had the better of the chances. Quality, still a not there in the final third but we thoroughly deserved what we got.

‘We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do to get over the line. It’s never easy coming away in the Championship, especially to a place like this against a team in great form. And I think if there was one team that deserved three points it was probably us.

‘We had the better of the chances. They had more of the ball but we had that recently and we haven’t won.

‘What was key in the game that we went 1-0 down and we bounced back and kept going and we didn’t go under like we did at QPR. That’s a huge credit to the lads.

‘Hopefully it’s just the beginning of a very successful run to the end of the season.’

Despite going into the break behind, the Blues were a rejuvenated outfit in the second half and controlled the play at Carrow Road.

And Poole has explained why Mousinho’s men needed to be more ‘uglier and nastier’ in order to earn a huge point in their survival fight.

‘It was massive. The run we’re on has been tough. We haven’t got what we deserved out of games but that’s why we knew we needed to change a little bit today.

‘We needed to be more uglier, nastier and I think we thoroughly deserved what we got. And if there was one team that was going to win it, it probably should have been us.

‘It wasn’t the prettiest, I don’t care as long as it gets us over the line at the end of the season.

‘The away form this season has been so much better than what it was last season and there's a reason for that.

‘Listen, the QPR game and the Birmingham game were one offs. We’ve been in many games away from home this season and we’ve been really good.

‘It wasn’t the prettiest on the eye but we;ve got seven games now and one objective.’
