Christian Saydee wants more - and he is convinced he can achieve that at Pompey.

The 22-year-old is ‘100 per cent happy’ at Fratton Park, despite continuing to play a bit-part role in their fortunes.

Since the Blues recruited him from Bournemouth in June 2023, the powerful attacker has started just 22 league games in two seasons.

Primarily, Saydee has been employed as an impact player off the bench by John Mousinho, with a superb cameo in the final match against Hull reflecting his unique talents.

And Saydee, who is contracted until the summer of 2026, is desperate for more match opportunities and more goals - at Pompey.

He told The News: ‘In football you always want more, even if you are starting and scoring goals, you still want to score more.

‘I always want to do more, I always have people around me like my big brother Matt (Ritchie), he’s always pushing me.

‘I want to score more goals, I want more playing time, but I know my role in the team and, hopefully if I get the chance to push on, then I can get there in the end.

‘I am happy at Pompey, 100 per cent, I love everyone around it, the best fans in the league, good people around me, the staff, the players are close. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

‘If I can add to my tally and become more of an impact in the team, starting a few more games, then I’d be even more happy.’

Saydee: Things can change so quickly for me at Portsmouth

Saydee has seven goals in 73 matches in all competitions for the Blues, although 43 of those appearances have come off the bench.

On Saturday against Hull, he replaced Callum Lang at half-time for only his sixth outing in the Blues’ last 17 matches.

The attacker proceeded to wreak havoc, levelling within 10 minutes of his introduction with a fierce right-footed shot from the angle after running onto Marlon Pack’s pass.

It was a characteristically powerful display from Saydee, physically revelling the battle with the Tigers, whose players were unable to knock him off the ball at times.

A squad regular throughout the season, other than a three-match injury spell in March, Mousinho clearly holds the ex-Bournemouth man in high regard.

And Saydee is eyeing more involvement at Fratton Park next season.

He added: ‘The gaffer always lets us know we can be available and things change so quickly. You can be involved for 10 minutes or then start.

‘It’s a very good group, everyone knows their role, everyone is pushing each other to get into the team.’
