Transfer gossip: Portsmouth to raid Brentford again as Blues close in on ex-Rangers and Southampton left-back

Pompey have been linked with a deadline-day move for Jayden Meghoma.

Pompey are closing in on the signing of Brentford youngster Jayden Meghoma, according to reports.

Sky Sports have revealed the 20-year-old is set to answer John Mousinho’s left-back SOS before this evening’s transfer deadline.

The report states the former Rangers and Southampton man will pen a season-long loan deal at Fratton Park, with the Bees keen for the England youth international to pick up regular game time.

The Blues have already raided the Gtech Community Stadium this summer, signing centre-back Benjy Arthur also on a temporary agreement.

Meghoma is now expected to link up with his Brentford team-mate on the south coast, with the youngster poised to be the man to fill the void at left-back.

That is an area which has been listed as a priority position by Mousinho following injuries to Connor Ogilvie (knee) and Jacob Farrell (groin).

The pair were sidelined for the Blues’ pre-season campaign and have yet to feature in any of the opening four matches this season.

This has required right-back Zak Swanson to start every game on the opposite flank so far this term.

Pompey had made enquires over Sheffield United’s Rhys Norrington-Davies, but the Blades opted against sanctioning a departure to their Championship rivals.

Meghoma rose through the ranks before moving to south-coast rivals Southampton in 2022, aged 16.

He registered four first-team outings at St Mary’s before being snapped up by Brentford two years later in a £5m deal.

During his two-year stay at the Gtech Community Stadium, the full-back has made one substitute outing in the Premier League along with three Carabao Cup appearances.

Meghoma has Championship experience under his belt, having spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Preston North End.

The young defender enjoyed a positive season-long stay at Rangers last term, amassing 44 appearances in all competitions, including eight Europa League outings.

Brentford have since sanctioned another temporary exit for Meghoma, who is set to join Pompey for the campaign.
