Portsmouth keen to find Tyrese Shade breakthrough despite willingness to turn attentions elsewhere

Pompey want to enhance their atacking options before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Pompey will continue dialogue with Burton Albion today in the hope that common ground can be found in regards to Tyrese Shade.

The Blues have a longstanding interest in the forward who scored 14 goals for the League One side last season and has been identified as a versatile player to enhance their attack.

Differences in valuations, however, have been a major stumbling block throughout attempts to strike a deal. So much so that Pompey’s focus had begun to shift elsewhere ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Burton have been holding out for a fee north of £2m for Shade, who was signed from National League Eastleigh last summer.

That’s not a figure the Blues are prepared to do business at.

Yet attempts will once again be made in the final throws of the transfer window to come to an agreement that both parties will be happy with.

Shade initially sat out the Brewers’ first three games of the season, with boss Gary Bowyer admitting the 26-year-old was not in the right frame of mind to feature.

However, the forward returned to Burton’s match-day squad for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Notts County and got his first minutes of the 2026-27 season under his belt with a 62nd-minute substitute appearance.
