Transfer report: Portsmouth to sign international attacking midfielder for £400,000 with 3-year deal agreed
Pompey are reportedly closing in on another new signings, following deals for Odin Bailey and Eoin Kenny
Pompey are reportedly applying the finishing touches to their third new arrival of the transfer window.
But fans will be surprised to hear it’s not the signings of Marko Milovanovic or Rocco Shein that they’re currently closing in on.
Both of those deals remain on course. But while the Fratton faithful wait patiently for those moves to be officially signed, sealed and delivered, it’s been claimed the Blues are advancing on yet another acquisition.
According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, Pompey are close to announcing the signing of New Zealand international Luke Brooke-Smith.
A £400,000 deal has reportedly been agreed between the Fratton Park club and Wellington Phoenix, with the player also agreeing terms on a three-year contract.
If correct, the deal to secure Brooke-Smith’s signature will be the sixth Pompey have negotiated with an Australian A-League side since 2023.
Since then, the Blues have signed Kusini Yengi (Western Sydney Wanderers), Jacob Farrell (Central Coast Mariners), Hayden Matthews (Sydney FC), Thomas Waddingham (Brisbane Roar) and Adrian Segecic (Sydney FC).
Like Segecic, Brooke-Smith is an attacking midfielder, who is also comfortable operating out wide.
His potential arrival will help bolster Pompey’s No10 options after the club decided against turning Conor Chaplin’s loan stay from Ipswich Town into a permanent arrangement.
The 18-year-old featured 19 times for Wellington last season as they finished eighth in the A-League. He recorded two assists in those appearances.
In total Brooke-Smith has lined up 34 times for his current side, scoring two and registering two assists.
Pompey’s signings this summer to date are midfielder Odin Bailey and Northern Ireland under-21 international winger Eoin Kenny.
