LATEST: Portsmouth boss reveals position over permanent move for Luton Town’s Millenic Alli
Millenic Alli has made a big impression at Pompey - with John Mousinho now outlining his position over signing the Luton Town man for the long term.
John Mousinho has confirmed he wants to make Millenic Alli’s stay at Pompey permanent.
And the Blues boss is planning summer talks with the Luton Town loanee over a move to Fratton Park, after the winger’s big impression to date.
Pompey boss wants Millenic Alli for the long term
Mousinho has made it clear he views landing the 26-year-old as ‘beneficial’ to his club moving forward, as he challenged Alli to add the goals and assists his attacking play merits.
The Irishman’s now nine games into his stay at PO4, making a big impression along the way with his pace, strength and direct running a big factor in his side’s upwardly mobile form.
Alli fell out of favour at his parent club after joining for £1.5m from Exeter City last January, opening the door for his temporary stay with Pompey.
Mousinho has now made it clear he’s keen to look at making that agreement more permanent moving forward.
He said: ‘That (signing Alli permanently) is obviously out of our hands, because he’s going to be a Luton player again in the summer.
‘From my perspective, if I can speak to Milli in the summer and persuade him to maybe extend his stay here I think everyone could see that as being beneficial.’
Despite Alli making his mark at Pompey in his stay to date, Mousinho still sees a lot of areas for the player to make improvements in his game.
Mousinho on Alli: ‘Goals and assists are the next step for him’
The Dublin-born man’s single goal and assist to date both came in the 3-0 success over West Brom last month, with the head coach looking for Alli to improve his output.
Mousinho knows Alli’s strong general form will be putting eyes on him, however, as he joked one of his side’s top performers hasn’t come up to standard after playing all but 24 minutes of his nine outings.
He added: ‘He’s been useless! I don’t think there’s going to be any value in him this summer, I think Luton should get rid of him and do it really quickly!
‘Seriously, Mill has been very, very good for us.
‘I do think there’s a lot of improvement we can get in his game though, with the Wrexham game a really good example of that. Some concentration down that left-hand side and a little bit of final product, that’s whether it’s crosses or cutting in on to his right foot and finishes.
‘So I think there’s still plenty of polishing we still need to do with that player, but I think he’s come in and made a really big impact. You can see with the team selection and the fact that he’s been playing 90 minutes in pretty much every game.’
