Key Portsmouth defender out for significant period with injury following Wrexham incident

John Mousinho has provided an update on Connor Ogilvie’s injury

Pompey defender Conor Ogilive is set to miss the next 10-12 weeks of the season.

Blues boss John Mousinho has confirmed the left-back will miss a significant chunk of his side’s campaign following the knee injury he sustained in Wednesday night’s goalless draw against Wrexham.

Ogilvie went off in the 27th minute of that fixture after being clattered by Issa Kabora - a challenge that didn’t even earn him a free-kick.

It was his first game back after missing the 4-0 defeat at Birmingham because of illness. Now the former Spurs man, who was an ever-present in Pompey’s starting XI this term, is set to sit out another 15 games at least following results of a scan.

Mousinho provides latest on Conor Ogilvie

Confirming the news, Mousinho told BBC Solent immediately after today’s defeat at Hull: ‘We’re looking at 10-12 weeks for Connor, we’re just waiting on the surgeon just to get back to us. But it looks like, as we feared, with the knee.

‘It’s a massive (blow) really. We’re thin on the ground anyway at the moment with the amount of players we’ve got out - and one extra player who has pretty much started every game so far this season, apart from obviously the one where he missed with an illness last week (Birmingham City). So, yeah, it’s tough.’

Pompey’s problems at left-back

In Ogilvie’s absence, Mousinho has utilised both centre-back Ibane Bowat (against Birmingham) and right-back Jordan Williams (against both Wrexham and Hull) on the left-hand side of his defence.

They’re his only real options at present as Jacob Farrell continues to struggle with a groin problem.

Both players started Pompey’s game at Hull on Saturday, with Mousinho operating with three centre-backs and Williams playing left-wing back.

However, the duo were at fault for Hull’s winning goal, with neither able to track the run of Joe Gelhardt, who scored the home side’s winner in the 79th minute.

Ogilvie was one of 10 Pompey unavailable for the 3-2 defeat at Hull because of injury.
