Souttar is being chased by Kenny Jackett, with the Blues boss keen to take the defender on loan or a permanent deal.

It looks a uphill battle to land the 21-year-old with Potters boss Michael O’Neill indicating he wants him involved.

He started in the Carabao Cup against Wolves on Thursday, but his lack of league involvement will lift Pompey’s hopes of landing the Australian international who was on loan at Fleetwood last season.

There’s no suggestion at this stage whether his absence is through injury or selection.
