Portsmouth to welcome 2,000 fans back to Fratton Park in time for Peterborough game following government tiering announcement

The government has today announced that Portsmouth will be placed in tier two of their new regional coronavirus restrictions when the current national lockdown expires on December 2. The city was originally in tier one before the latest revision.

And that means supporters will once again be able to take their seats at Blues home games – albeit at a vastly reduced rate and with social distancing still in place.

Pompey’s first game with fans permitted will be the visit of Peterborough to Fratton Park on Saturday, December 5.

Next month also sees Fleetwood (December 15), Swindon (December 26) and Bristol Rovers (December 29) travel to PO4 – matches that will also have spectators present.

Meanwhile, away trips to Cheltenham (December 8) and Ipswich (Decmeber 12) are also scheduled – but those games will most likely be reserved for home supporters only.

The Blues announced a flexi-season-ticket scheme back in August to help allocate seating for Fratton Park matches when fans were granted permission to return.

More than 12,700 Pompey season-ticket holders have signed up for the project, which is now closed.

The club are yet to confirm details of the next stage of that process.

Clubs with a tier one classification are allowed to welcome 4,000 fans back into stadiums.

There are currently no League One clubs operating in such a tier.

However, those who are in tier 3 – including Blackpool, who the Blues face next Tuesday night (December 1) – must continue to play their games behind closed doors.
