Portsmouth transfers: John Mousinho explains thinking behind Eoin Kenny signing

Eoin Kenny has become Pompey’s second signing of the summer transfer window

John Mousinho said Pompey new boy Eoin Kenny has the ability to get the Fratton faithful off their seats.

The Blues boss believes the exciting 20-year-old forward has all the attributes to be a PO4 success and make his mark at Championship level.

Kenny has joined Pompey for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal after an agreement was struck with League of Ireland Premier Division side Dundalk.

He’s the second player to join the Blues during the summer transfer window, following Odin Bailey’s arrival last week, and moves to Fratton Park after five goals and three assists for the Oriel Park side during their ongoing 2026 campaign.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international’s stock has been on the rise in recent seasons, scoring 10 goals last term as the Lilywhites booked their place back in Ireland’s top flight in just his second campaign at senior level.

That has led to much speculation about the Derry-born youngster’s future, with Lincoln, Luton and Blackpool also known admirers of the winger.

Mousinho is also among Kenny’s long list of admirers and believes Pompey is the perfect place for the 20-year-old to continue his impressive development.

Speaking after Kenny penned his three-year deal with the club, the Blues head coach said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Eoin to the club and I’m excited to see him continue the impressive development he has made over the past few years.

‘We feel that he can do exactly that in this environment and has all the attributes you need to succeed in the Championship.

‘He’s a young attacking player who is capable of getting fans off their seats with the way he likes to take on opposition defenders.’

Midfielder Rocco Shein and striker Marko Milovanovic are expected to follow Kenny through the door at Fratton Park in the coming days.
