Transfer gossip: Portsmouth reject fresh £1.5m Preston North End bid for Callum Lang
Pompey face a battle to keep Callum Lang this month, with interest from Championship rivals growing.
Pompey have reportedly rejected a fresh offer from Preston North End for Callum Lang.
That’s according to transfer guru Pete O’Rourke, who has claimed the Blues have turned down a seven-figure offer for the 27-year-old.
A bid in the region of £1.5m has been promptly rejected by the football operations at Fratton Park as they aim to keep the forward for the second half of the campaign.
The ex-Wigan Athletic man was at the centre of a reported move by North End, who tabled a £2m offer for his services, but were turned away by John Mousinho’s side.
The fresh report, though, has suggested the play-off chasing outfit are expected to return with a new bid and are determined to land the versatile attacker before the February 2 deadline.
Lang is entering the final six months of his Fratton Park contract, although Pompey do hold an extra 12-month option on those terms.
The winger currently remains out of action as he continues his recovery from a hamstring issue, which has forced him to miss the previous four matches in all competitions.
Injuries have hampered the Fratton favourite this term and was forced to undergo surgery on a separate hamstring problem at the start of the campaign. This has limited Lang to just eight outings this season, netting on two occasions.
Rich Hughes on Callum Lang’s future

After a summer of uncertainty, which saw Lang tipped with a move away in July, Rich Hughes revealed in September 2025 his intent on keeping Lang beyond his current terms.
The sporting director told The News at the time: ‘The priority for Callum now is to get himself back fit, I know that’s the top of his to-do list.
‘We’ve had a lot of conversations with his agent and we want Callum to stay. We have that protection of the option, but, if there is an agreement which can be had to keep everyone continuing the relationship, it’s definitely a conversation that we will have.
‘The conversation at the moment has been around recovering from injury and getting that right first - then we can pursue everything as and when the time is right. But I know Callum is fully focused on getting himself back fit at the minute.
‘It’s part of life in football that these things (injuries) happen sometimes. He will be better for it and will come back to have a big effect on the group, I am sure.
‘Callum has enjoyed his time at the football club and we’re hoping he is here for a good few years longer as well.’
