‘Blatant cheating. Take that every day of the week’: Portsmouth and Ipswich Town verdicts after Fratton Park postponement

Pompey and Ipswich Town fans have taken to social media to react to the postponement of this evening’s Championship fixture.

The Blues announced a waterlogged pitch has put paid to tonight’s contest, due to persistent rain on the south coast overnight and this morning.

It represents the second time the contest has been rearranged, with the original affair called off just hours before kick-off because of a frozen pitch in January.

It comes at a good time for John Mousinho’s men who were busy on deadline day, with three new faces arriving through the doors on Monday.

While it remains to be seen if the trio would have been registered in time to feature against Ipswich, Pompey would’ve been without 11 players for tonight’s contest due to injury and unavailability.

And that’s something the Fratton faithful have joked about on social media as they reacted to the news of tonight’s postponement.

Ipswich supporters, though, have been far more critical, with some having to now make a trip to PO4 for the third time this season.

Here’s what both sets of fans have been saying on X.

Pompey and Ipswich react to postponement

@Dann_PFC: Sorry but we’ve got our striker, winger and centre halves injured at the moment, steps had to be taken. Maybe next month.

@djsimonbizzle: Tinpot club! Thoughts to fans travelling from Ipswich now having to change their plans AGAIN! Not good enough at this level!!

@pfc17482: Take that every day of the week, get some players back, and start to integrate the new signings.

@t9_9p: Blatant cheating at this point. Multiple out and new signings not ready, give them a loss.

@Iain_Macdonald7: Waterlogged pitch at this level is just a little embarrassing, especially given this game already being postponed once. Probably forgot to register the loans in time or they have already pulled their hamstrings so delaying game to get them back.

@PompeyPedro: Shoutout to the very thoughtful weather gods for conveniently giving our new signings time to be registered, our injured players more time to get fit and our not injured players more time to rest before the next games. 3rd time lucky.

@nozurb1: We haven’t had a game postponed in YEARS before this fixture came around and now it’s been canned back to back, that’s insane.

@TsunamiQuiff: At this rate it'll be played after the season has ended. Games in Hand FC the team for me.

@mithITFC: How pathetic. That’s twice fans have paid for travel/accommodation etc for the game to be called off. Pompey should be reimbursing all fans who have already paid for commitments, or forfeiting the game. Simple as.

@pompeychiv: Just have to laugh at this point. Still gives us time to get some players back and imbed our new signings.
