Devante Rodmey, who scored the goals for Hartlepool to beat Doncaster and help Pompey win the League Two title in 2017, is another to be shown the door.

It means there will be a huge shake-up of manager Graham Alexander’s squad before they meet Kenny Jackett’s men at Wembley for a match which is now due to take in the months ahead after being cancelled amid the coronavrius crisis.

The full list of players released by Salford is: Josh Askew, Craig Conway, Kieran Glynn, Kyle Letheren, Chris Neal, Michael O’Connor, Nathan Pond, Mark Shelton and Scott Wiseman, Gibson and Rodney.
