There have been plenty of them in an unprecedented season in terms of cancellations.

Games have been called off because of Victorious Festival, international breaks, Bury’s expulsion from the Football League and the Blues' progression in cup competitions.

But at least this time a trip to Wembley the following the day softens the blow.

Tuesday night's enthralling 3-2 win over Exeter means Pompey fans will be descending on the national stadium for successive seasons.

More than 42,000 made the pilgrimage last year for the EFL Trophy triumph against Sunderland on penalties.

This year's final takes place on Sunday, April 5 and it’ll be a first meeting against League Two big spenders Salford City in the capital.

As a result, the Blues' clash against Bristol Rovers, scheduled for the previous day, will be postponed.

That means a new date must be found – although blank dates in Pompey's diary aren’t exactly awash.

Kenny Jackett’s men already have an upcoming hectic schedule as they continue to fight on three fronts.

Pompey have midweek League One home games on Tuesdays approaching against MK Dons (February 25), Fleetwood (March 10) and Doncaster (March 17).

Then there’s a Good Friday trip to Rotheram (April 10) quickly followed up by the Easter Monday visit of Blackpool (April 13).

In addition, the week beginning Monday, March 2 is unavailable. That's the day Arsenal visit in a money-spinning FA Cup fifth-round tie and it’s followed by a trip to promotion rivals Peterborough on Saturday, March 7 in the league.

Assessing the Blues and Rovers’ respective calendars there are a few dates the rearranged game could take place – and that’s if Pompey don’t get past the Premier League Gunners!

If Jackett’s men do exit the Cup, it looks like they'll have to wait until either Tuesday, April 21 or Tuesday April 28 to face the Gas.

There are two dates in March available, with neither side in action on either Tuesday, 24 or Tuesday 31.

That’s when the next international break takes place, though, meaning it could depend on how many call-ups Pompey receive.

Ronan Curtis is in the frame for the Republic of Ireland's Euros 2020 play-off in Slovakia, as is Craig MacGillivray for Scotland’s play-off against Israel.

Ross McCrorie will be on duty with Scotland under-21s to face Croatia and Greece, while Ryan Williams could be selected for Australia’s World Cup qualifiers against Kuwait and Nepal.
