Encouraging early indications are he could potentially establish himself as one of Pompey’s best summer recruits.

Certainly Freddie Potts is adamant the Fratton faithful have yet to see the best of him as he continues to find his feet in the Championship.

It may have taken more than three weeks for the 21-year-old to be handed his Blues debut, yet since his Burnley bow he has started four successive matches.

And while he continues to impress John Mousinho and Pompey’s fans, Potts insists he is still nowhere near his most devastating form.

He told The News: ‘Coming from League One, the quality of the opposition has been a big difference, as well as the whole intensity of the games and how quick it is.

‘I’m doing okay, but I know I still have more to give. The more I keep playing, the more I will become more comfortable with the league and adapt properly.

‘I have more to show and more to give to the fans. Going forward. I really want to be someone who can lead the team in games, creating chances and getting stuck in, getting around the pitch.

‘It was tough for the first couple of weeks, but nothing phases me any more. I am not phased by the opposition, I know what I can do and I’ll try to do my best every single game, giving everything to this team.

‘When I get to that point, you will see someone with lots of energy and rats around, I want to get on the ball and create chances. I just want to excite people, to be someone the fans can look at with pride at being in the team.

‘I really believe I have more in me to show. I must keep improving and getting better, especially under this head coach. I can learn a lot from him, the staff and the rest of the players.

‘Once performances turn into wins, you’ll see better versions of everyone in this team.’

Potts can expect to retain his place against QPR on Saturday as Pompey’s hunt for a first win of the campaign continues.

Yet despite their position of second from bottom of the Championship, Potts insists he is ‘frustrated’ rather than worried.

He added: ‘I’m not concerned, more frustrated. The performances we’ve put in haven’t been given justice by the scoreline.

‘That’s on us, not anyone else. I’m not using that as an excuse, I’m just saying that I am frustrated how the performances we’ve put in haven’t been put into wins, as some games should have.

‘Burnley maybe, Oxford definitely, we should be higher up in the league than we are, but I’m really confident in myself and the rest of the team that we’re going to do well this season.

‘If we go the right way about every game and lead each other through it then we have positive games coming up which we can get a lot of points from’.
