Kenny Jackett’s side were unable to break down the visitors to Fratton Park, with an 89th-minute Tom Naylor header the closest the hosts came to opening the scoring.

Meanwhile, just two minutes earlier keeper Craig MacGillivray came to Pompey’s rescue as he stood up to Shews forward Rekeil Pyke’s point-blank effort.

The result means Pompey maintain their unbeaten home record, which stretches back to May 2019.

However, the performance left the Fratton faithful far from inspired.

Here’s a selection of the views shared on Twitter at the final whsitle.

@Josh0logy: Same old rubbish.

@titch120408: Not good enough. Brown not quick enough and Canon should be on from start.

Marquis not getting the ball in the right areas keeps dropping far to deep.

@IndianaDerman: Not bad at the back. Big holes in midfield. No creativity or ideas going forward. Need to see some massive improvement in this department.

@LewPeet: Don’t really understand why Ellis didn’t come on?

Otherwise a bit lacklustre but we were the better side in the second half and would have won on another day.

@jolyonr: Thought we looked stronger in the last 20 minutes but only ever got into 3rd gear.

@jamesob94: We all knew it was coming given the board’s failure to replace a manager who has had 3 cracks at promotion and the team and performances getting worse year on year.

@DanKnight10: This is a typical performance under Jackett and what we've all come to expect

Many times last season especially at home the fans gave the players a push over the line but despite being unbeaten at home last season there were only a handful of excellent performances.

@barnard_mr: Pompey are crying out for a number 10. We lack creativity. Every transfer window KJ has wanted a number 10 and failed to acquire one.

@MrRichAnthony: Typical Pompey: slow start to the season. Creative attacking flair footballer missing.

@shaun_lockhart: Going to be a long season on that basis.

@SimisterNick: Very under performed but if there is any positives on this then Jack whatmough looks class .. and a clean sheet . my man of the match was Lee brown to be fair.
