As many as two new stoppers could arrive through the doors at Fratton Park as the head coach bids to add someone who can establish themselves as the club’s long-term No1.
Of course, Matt Macey is the Blues’ top target after an impressive loan spell from Luton over the second half of last season. This saw him keep 10 clean sheets in 21 outings on the south coast.
Norris is another name to be linked with a switch to the south coast following his release from Burnley at the end of the season. The stopper spent the second half of the campaign on loan with Peterborough, where he kept 11 clean sheets in 24 games for the Posh. His displays, though, were overshadowed by their disappointing play-off defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, which saw the Owls overturn a 4-0 deficit to advance to the final. Nonetheless, Darren Ferguson was full of praise for Norris’ composure on the ball during his time at London Road. That can be shown as he made 11.42 short passes out of the back with a success rate of 98.2 per cent. Despite joining in January, Norris would rank in the top nine for most saves in the division per 90 - making an average of 2.78. Photo: Catherine Ivill
The 21-year-old was linked with a move to Pompey last summer as Danny Cowley weighed up options to replace Gavin Bazunu. After the Blues turned their attention elsewhere, the stopper made the switch to Lincoln on loan from Brighton. And his first League One loan paid off as he kept 19 clean sheets in 42 league outings. Like most modern goalkeepers, Rushworth has great attributes on the ball - both with short and long passes. In the 2022-23 campaign, he made 14.11 short passes per 90 minutes, with a 96.3 per cent success rate as well playing 10.69 long balls, with a 63.6 per cent accuracy. Photo: George Wood
The Winchester-born keeper has come through the ranks at Chelsea but is yet to make a first-team outing for the Blues. This has seen him spend time on loan with Stevenage, Gillingham and MK Dons. Last season, the 23-year-old faced the second most amount of shots in League One - saving 137. This impressive figure saw him place in the top five in the division. Despite coming to the rescue on a number of occasions, Cumming conceded 66 goals in the league - placing him in an unwanted top two spot. It is certain Cumming will be playing his football away from Stadium MK after their relegation to League Two. Photo: Pete Norton
The keeper might’ve got relegated with Morecambe but he leads the way with a number of key goalkeeping figures in League One. The 30-year-old faced the most shots (278) in the division, which also saw him make the most saves out of any, with 200. The Fratton faithful will remember the stopper well as he put on a man-of-the-match performance for the Shrimps during their 0-0 draw with Pompey. Following their relegation, Ripley was released after just one season at the Mazuma Stadium. Derek Adams’ style of play was reflective in his ball-playing attributes, making more than double the amount of long passes (12.9) than short passes (5.94). Nonetheless, his passing accuracy is impressive, with a 65.5 per cent success rate for long balls as well as a 96.6 per cent when going short. Photo: David Rogers
