Striker takes Portsmouth injury list into double figures after injury sustained in Norwich pre-match warm-up
Colby Bishop is the latest member of Pompey’s walking wounded.
Pompey are sweating over the fitness of Colby Bishop.
John Mousinho has confirmed the Blues striker played no part in Saturday’s win at Norwich because of an injury picked up in the warm-up at Carrow Road.
According to the Pompey head coach, the striker felt something in his knee as the visitors prepared for their latest Championship test.
The 29-year-old was still named among the substitutes, with the Blues’ bench including two goalkeepers as nine injured players failed to make the trip to Norfolk.
Yet the decision was taken not to involve the former Accrington forward at any part of the game, hence Mousinho’s decision to replace match-winner Marko Milovanovic with Tyrese Shade on 71 minutes.
‘So Colby just felt his knee in the warm-up. He wasn't quite right,’ said Mousinho in his post-match interview with BBC Solent.
‘Whenever Colby feels anything and declares himself unfit to play, you know he’s just not thinking: ‘I’m going to pretend myself!
‘Colby plays through absolutely everything, so that’s why Colby didn’t come on.’
Pompey will assess Bishop’s knee more thoroughly when they return to the south coast.
The last time the centre-forward missed a game through injury was the Blues’ 1-0 defeat at Preston North End in February with an ankle problem.
His unavailability at Norwich takes Pompey’s list of injured players to 10.
Mousinho added: ‘We need the squad. We showed that today, we need the squad, we need players to come in. We've seen that consistently.
‘There’s never a season that goes by that a side relies on 11, 12-13 players. You need the whole squad.’
Conor Shaughnessy, Benjy Arthur, Connor Ogilvie, Josh Murphy, Luke Brooke-Smith, Thomas Waddingham, John Swift, Keshi Anderson and Franco Umeh all sat out the win at Norwich because of injury.
Anderson who suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-2 midweek win against Sheffield United is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks.
