But what about the 16 men who departed at Fratton Park this summer? Some have found new homes while others are waiting to see what their futures hold. We’ve got the latest lowdown on what’s happened to those former Blues men.
5. Louis Thompson
Got his career back on track at Pompey are a lengthy period of injury woe. Wasn’t used that much by John Mousinho, so was no surprise to see the midfielder released. Nor was it a shock to see Thompson quickly snapped up, as he links up with his brother Nathan at League One new boys Stevenage. Photo: Jason Brown
6. Ryan Tunnicliffe
Saw his Pompey fortunes rejuvenated under John Mousinho, but the midfielder was never part of his long-term plans. Not going to be short of options with Charlton mooted as a possible option - which is close to where Tunnicliffe lives in Bromley. Photo: Jason Brown
7. Kieron Freeman
Inevitable the right-back would be on his way after barely featuring last term. Freeman’s two-year stay came to a close with it clear he wanted to be closer to his family in the midlands. Is currently training with Mansfield, where he could vie with fellow Pompey old boy Callum Johnson for the right-back role. Photo: Paul Thompson
8. Jayden Reid
The one summer departure it’s all quiet on at present. Was at the tail end of his rehab from a second serious knee injury at the end of the season and was hoping for a chance to prove his fitness in pre-season. It never came and the unfortunate winger is now on the lookout for a new club. Photo: Portsmouth FC
