The teenage potter's bid to win a place in the main draw was ended with a 6-4 defeat to Welshman Jak Jones in their second round qualifying meeting.

Wilson, 17, headed into his latest battle on the baize full of confidence after whitewashing Barry Pinches 6-0 in the opening round on Monday.

He came racing out of the traps again, this time taking a 4-1 lead, to leave Jones with it all to do.

However, the Welsh player reeled off four frames on the spin, firing in hefty breaks of 130, 63 and 70 in three of those to move within a frame of victory.

Both players missed chances to seize the initiative in what turned out to be the final frame before Jones saw it out, reeling off five frames in succession to set up a third round qualifying meeting with Norweigan world number 25 Kurt Maflin on Saturday.

For Wilson, it brings to an end his first year on the main tour after winning a two-year card through Q School in 2020.
