Operatic masterpiece hits Portsmouth's Big Screen tonight

OPERA-lovers will be in for a treat tonight as Portsmouth's city centre stages a major masterpiece.

Il Trovatore, Verdi’s tragic melodrama, will be shown 
live on Portsmouth’s Big Screen in Guildhall Square from 7.15pm.

The harrowing tale of love, revenge and war will be screened free.

The Royal Opera House production is being shown around the country as part of the BP Big Screens programme.

The opera tells the tale of star-crossed lovers, Manrico and Leonora, which is intertwined with the fate of the Manrico’s mother the gypsy Azucena, who is seeking vengeance for the murder of her own mother by the Di Luna family.

The show includes exclusive backstage films with the singers as well as the final chance to enter a BP Big Screen competition to win a hamper full of goodies.
