Eerie Halloween walk takes over Petersfield Bookshop to raise money for charity

Scares in store at bookshop

Spine-chilling characters have leapt from the pages of books to stalk the aisles of an independent bookshop during a three-day Halloween event.

Petersfield Bookshop, in Chapel Street, has once again been transformed for its annual spooky walkthrough, raising vital funds for two charities.

This year, the spooky trail has been extended, taking visitors through more areas of the bookshop and promising a scare around every corner.

The three-day event, which began on October 28, costs £2 per person, with all money raised going to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and The Rosemary Foundation.

Created by the Sandy Close Group, which is formed of residents in the close, the team at the bookshop is hoping to welcome more than 1,000 people through the doors this year.

Micky Swainsbury, a member of the Sandy Close Group, said: “It's the character of the bookshop that outlives everything. We don't need props, we don't need material in here to make this bookshop look like a Halloween shop.

“We've got more actors this year, we've got more people involved. If you remember last year, we only did two nights. This year, we've got three nights because we had so many people.”

The Halloween walk will be open from 6pm to 8.30pm, with an earlier session taking place between 2pm and 4pm for children.

Micky added: “The route is longer. We didn't think we could do any longer last year, but the way the shop is laid out, we've got some more areas that we didn't hit last year.
