The Greene King-owned pub, in Privett Road, was forced to call in a pest control firm on Thursday morning – after several mice had run across customers’ feet in the dining area last week, according to a member of staff.

The member of staff said the pub had a problem with mice over the last two years.

A spokesman from Greene King said: ‘We take our cleanliness and hygiene standards extremely seriously and once we become aware of this issue, we took immediate remedial action. The pests have now been eliminated from the building and the pub has now reopened.

‘The potential issue was identified on Thursday morning. The pub closed Thursday and Friday, then reopened Saturday morning.’

Gosport Borough Council said it had not been contacted about the situation and that the pub had closed under its own volition, and not due to any order.

The pub’s dining area was refurbished in 2017.

Food is served from the company’s ‘flaming grill menu,’ including steaks, burgers, and barbecue chicken wings.
