LGV driver training scheme

DISTRIBUTION and warehouse firm Fowler Welch has launched a driver training programme that will see the introduction of new driver roles at its Hilsea depot.

The new programme has been launched to combat the low level of LGV drivers in the UK logistics industry.

The 12-month apprentice programme will provide driver training, including regulations and legislation, customer service, fuel efficient driving, route planning and use of specialist equipment and machinery.

Alan Hanrahan, driver development manager, said: ‘The current shortage of LGV drivers in the UK is a cause for concern in the industry and at Fowler Welch we see it as our responsibility not just to train and nurture talent for ourselves, but to resource the logistics sector as a whole and this programme is the first step in doing that.’
