Retirement villages celebrate 90 years

RETIREES and their families took a trip down memory lane to celebrate Hamble and Wickham's history from 1926, the year the Queen was born, to the present day.

Folland Court in Hamble and Wykeham Court in Wickham, both owned by McCarthy & Stone, held a gallery from the mid-20s onwards, brought to life with talks by Brian Knapp from the Hamble Local History and Brian Barrett, the former chairman of Wickham History Society.

Visitors were able to take a tour of the developments, chat to some of the current homeowners, and see for themselves what life is like at the retirement villages.

Kim Caldwell, marketing director for McCarthy & Stone, said: ‘Our “now and then” events are a fantastic way for visitors to join in with the nationwide celebrations of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday, and experience just how much has changed in Hamble and Wickham in those 90 years.

‘It was a great way to reminisce about the good old days, reignite old memories, and look ahead to the future and think about how things might look in the next 90 years.

‘We are very thankful to all those who visited us at Folland Court and Wykeham Court to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and for making the day so enjoyable.’
