Southsea Beerex makes its return tomorrow

THIS weekend marks the return of a beer festival in Southsea.

Ale lovers are being invited to The Wedgewood Rooms, in Albert Road, tomorrow for the start of Southsea Beerex.

Up to 40 different ales and a selection of ciders will be on offer during the occasion, which runs through to Saturday evening.

As reported, the event was first put on last year by Stuart Ainsworth, landlord of The Leopold Tavern, also on Albert Road, to showcase local beer and live music.

Three sessions will be held; the first from 6pm to 11pm tomorrow night, the second from midday to 5pm on the Saturday and the last one will take place that evening from 6pm to 11pm.

Five bands will play during each session.

Southsea’s Pie and Vinyl record store, in Castle Road, Southsea, will be serving up food for guests.

Stuart said: ‘The preparations have gone really well.

Tickets are still available and they can be bought on the door.

‘All the beers have been ordered and are ready to go, and the bands are ready to go.

‘It’s just a matter of opening the doors up now.

‘Ticket sales are on par with last year’s event, so we can’t argue about that.

‘We are feeling confident after the sales we had last year. It’s about getting everyone together and promoting the local area.

‘It’s great live music meeting great real beer – it works.’

Tickets cost £10 each and a commemorative glass is included in the price.

As reported, Eastney landlord Paul Jevons will be holding his own real ale bash at Eastney Community Centre on April 23.
