Southsea sprout competition returns
The unusual event took place in The Phoenix Pub, in Duncan Road, Southsea, in aid of Return to Normandy, a charity which helps veterans return to Normandy for the 72nd Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
Phoenix landlady Kath Birche, 50, said: ‘We have raised £1,500 so far and we are still expecting to receive more. Sprout eating always attracts a lot of people - even if it is just to watch you suffer. The winner was Chris Cait who ate 140 sprouts in a hour and a half.
‘We have received so much support and have smashed our target, and we will definitely be holding an event like this again.’
