We Create Market will host more than 90 artists, designers, and creatives in the former Debenhams store in 44-46 Palmerston Road on December 12 and 13.

The market project, created by Portsmouth Creates, was launched in September and expanded for its October event – but this month’s market was cancelled due to the national lockdown.

A statement from We Create Market said: ‘We Create Market will be full of festive cheer for you to shop your Christmas socks off and will be operated within Covid-19 government guidelines to keep customers and exhibitors safe.

‘In the lead up to the market we will be monitoring the situation closely for any changes or guidance from the authorities.’

The project is also making it easier for people to support Portsmouth and Hampshire based independent traders online thanks to a directory of its exhibitors.

The statement continued: ‘In the meantime, please continue to be wonderful and shop local. Portsmouth Creates has made a directory of all the wonderful exhibitors so you can find all of your favourites there too.

‘Please visit wecreatemarket.co.uk and start to get those Christmas gifts sorted.

‘A great big thank you to everyone for shopping local and supporting Portsmouth Creates.

‘Stay safe and look after each other everyone.’

It comes as The News and Portsmouth City Council continue to highlight the importance of the city’s independent businesses, with the authority creating a ‘virtual market’ for supportive shoppers.

Portsmouth Creates started last year with the aim of supporting the city’s creative and cultural industries, funded by the city council, the University of Portsmouth, Arts Council England and Victorious Festival.
