Wedding business opens new studio

AN AWARD-WINNING wedding stationers turned to its very first customer to officially open its new design studio.

An event was held to mark the occasion at Laurel Designs, in Swanwick Lane, Lower Swanwick, last week.

The business has sprung from small beginnings – owner Carol Slark used to make wedding invitations as a hobby.

Almost four years ago she was asked by Blanche Hayes to make her invites, and this inspired Carol to give up her corporate full-time job of 27 years to turn her hobby into an exciting, growing business.

Carol said: ‘It was a great pleasure to invite Blanche along to do the honours and open the new studio.

‘As without her faith in my ability and the encouragement from my husband, friends and family, I wouldn’t be where I am today.’

Blanche said: ‘It was an honour to officially open the new studio.

‘Carol and her team have come a long way since I asked for my wedding invitations and I am delighted to see the business has really taken off.’

Now not only has the business premises expanded, it has won several awards, including last year’s Venus Awards for Best Home-Based Business, and it has also taken on a new member of the team – Kirsty Bull, a wedding and event planner.
