She is now going on to study chemistry, maths, physics and biology at UTC.

She said: '˜I feel amazing. I came in this morning more confident than I thought I would be because I knew that I had worked really hard. I wasn't particularly fussed about getting 8s or 9s, but after today I'm really pleased.'

Portsmouth Academy student Sara Eftekhari, of North End, hit an incredible nine grade 9s and two A*.

She said: '˜I didn't revise especially - I just learnt as I went along.

'I like the new grading system as it gives you the chance to achieve more of a distinction with your grades.'

Chloe Abraham had to balance being head girl alongside her studies but managed to smash her targets despite the extra commitments.

After scoring four 9 grades, two 8s and four 7s she was delighted.

'˜I can't believe it, I'm so shocked,' she said. 'I didn't think I would get this good results.'

'I put a lot of hard work in. It was challenging with the head girl role where I had to do charity work and speeches. Hopefully I'll be able to become a biochemist.'

Mum Natalie added: '˜We are extremely proud. You watch them go through all the stress so it's really pleasing for her to achieve these results especially when balancing her head girl role. Her dad nearly fell if his forklift at work when he found out.'
