The man was one of four people left behind on the Diamond Princess cruise ship which is currently quarantined in Japan, Kyodo News reports.
He becomes the first foreign passenger to die and brings the death toll on among passengers on the vessel to six.

A total of 705 passengers on-board the ship have tested positive for coronavirus.
