Coronavirus: 7 more patients die at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth - bringing total to 15

Seven more patients with coronavirus have died at the city’s hospital.

The patients, who were being cared for at Queen Alexandra Hospital, were aged between 78 and 93 and all had underlying health conditions.

It brings the total of Covid-19 patients who have died at the hospital in Cosham to 15.

Dr John Knighton, medical director at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘We can confirm that sadly seven patients who were being cared for at Queen Alexandra Hospital and had Covid-19, have died.

‘The patients, four women and three men, aged between 78 and 93, all had underlying health conditions.

‘We have informed the families of the patients and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.’

Last Tuesday, March 17 a 59-year-old woman was the first patient with Covid-19 to die.

On Friday, March 20, QA Hospital confirmed two women, aged 89 and 98, and two men, aged 70 and 90, had also died.

Two men, aged 73 and 77, and a 54-year-old woman, were confirmed to have died on Saturday, March 21.

All had underlying health conditions.

Two patients being cared for by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have also died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A spokesman today said: ‘Sadly, we can confirm that two patients – a man and a woman - who were being cared for by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

‘The patients were aged 79 and 83 respectively and both had underlying health conditions. Both families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.’

As of yesterday’s Public Health England data – the latest available – Hampshire had 171 positive cases, Portsmouth had 29 and Southampton had 24.
