Bransbury Park: Roof progress and cladding preparations mark latest construction milestone

More milestones reached at new centre

Construction continues to progress at Bransbury Park, with the roof taking shape, flood protection measures advancing and preparations under way for the external cladding.

Terrible weather has not deterred contractors from cracking on at the £22m leisure centre, which is anticipated to be complete by the end of next year.

The centre will consist of two swimming pools, a gym, studio spaces and a GP surgery which marks a first in the country, with BH Live lined up to operate the site.

In a fortnightly bulletin update from the Portsmouth City Council, it said the highest section of the roof is now fully covered, with insulation and the final felt layer next on the list. Meanwhile, roof cladding is being installed across the middle section at impressive speed, with exposed steel frames quickly disappearing beneath the new covering.

Inside, the team has reached an important milestone, with the internal staircase now ready for use. This provides easier access to the first floor.

Flood protection work is also moving forward, with only 10 L-beams left to install around the base of the building. These will help protect the centre from potential flooding.

Elsewhere, sections of the steelwork are being encased in fire protection boards. The white boards help protect the building’s structural steel in the event of a fire, forming an important part of the work to prepare the structure for the next stage of construction.

Preparations for the external cladding are also under way, with a specialist team installing brackets around the building to support the new outer covering.
