"Aggressive" men terrorise Canoe Lake and cause injuries to one man in an assault

A group of men terrorised members of the public in Southsea with “aggressive” behaviour including assaulting one man.

Police received a number of calls yesterday (March 20) at around 3.30pm reporting that two to three men were being verbally abusive and aggressive to people at Canoe Lake and in the Rose Garden. A man in his 30s suffered injuries to his head and arm after one of the group assaulted him.

There was speculation online that they also attacked some of the swans at Canoe Lake, however police have advised that they did not receive any reports of this.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We received numerous calls at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon reporting that a group of two to three men were being verbally abusive and aggressive towards members of the public at Canoe Lake and in the Rose Garden.

“A man in his 30s was assaulted by one of the men, sustaining minor injuries to his head and arm. Officers attended and carried out a search of the area, however the suspects were not located.

“An investigation into this incident is underway and our enquiries are ongoing.”
