Counterfeit products swiped from the hangers include headphones, earphones, power adapters, cables, chargers, PlayStation 4 controllers, branded phone cases and back plates and phone repair components.

A Trading Standards statement said: “Items seized included over 400 Apple back-glass components from one store, over 300 Apple phone back cases and over 300 Samsung phone back cases at another premises, as well as substantial quantities of adaptors, cables and headphones.

“Counterfeit electrical accessories are often poorly constructed, and can pose a risk of overheating, fire, electric shock and explosion. We would like to thank WRI Group who represent the 'Apple' brand and the Intellectual Property Office UK for their expertise and support during the operation.

“Further examinations and enquiries are continuing.”
