Kings Road in Southsea was closed after boy hit by car, police confirm

A TEENAGER is recovering in hospital after being hit by a car in Southsea last night.

Kings Road was closed between St Paul’s Road and Norfolk Road last night as police responded to an incident.

Now, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was hit by a car.

A spokeswoman said: ‘We are investigating after Toyota Corolla collided with a pedestrian on Kings Road in Southsea just before 7.30pm on Sunday, February 21.

‘The pedestrian, a 16-year-old boy from Portsmouth, was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

‘The driver of the Toyota, a 34-year-old man from Portsmouth, is assisting officers with their enquiries.

‘The boy is recovering in hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.’

Police confirmed that nobody was arrested.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, which took the boy to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, said: ‘We were contacted by Hampshire police last night at 7.31pm, who informed us of a collision between a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Elm Grove and Castle Road.

‘We sent an ambulance to the scene and the crew reported that the pedestrian appeared to have escaped any serious injuries, but was taken to the QA Hospital for further assessment.’

One resident, who spoke to The News last night, said: ‘I was looking out of my window and could see more and more police arriving.’

By this morning, police had left the scene.
