Police confirm they are investigating alleged 'common assault' of a teenage boy at Fratton Park
Enquiries are ongoing after confrontation at Fratton Park
Police have confirmed that they are investigating an incident at Fratton Park where a teenage boy was allegedly the victim of a common assault.
During Portsmouth’s 2-0 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday, September 5, there was a flash point in the second half where the Welsh team’s defender Krystian Bielik confronted a young fan who was sitting in the South Stand. It occurred in the 72nd minute with the game stopped for several minutes as the fan was led out of the stadium by stewards.
The incident has gained widespread attention with footage being shared on social media. Pompey released a statement earlier today (September 6) urging for “caution against speculation” as enquiries continue. Police have now confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we are investigating an incident in which a teenage boy was reportedly the victim of a common assault during yesterday’s (Saturday, September 5) football match at Fratton Park. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
The statement from Portsmouth read: “Portsmouth Football Club are aware of supporter concerns regarding the incident involving a young fan and an opposition player at yesterday’s match at Fratton Park.
“As this remains a safeguarding matter and is currently under investigation by both the club and the police, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further on the circumstances at this time.
“However, we are aware that a number of claims and assertions are circulating on social media. We would urge caution against speculation while enquiries are ongoing. The welfare and safeguarding of young people are of paramount importance to Portsmouth Football Club.
“We will continue to liaise with the relevant parties as enquiries progress. No further comment will be made at this stage while investigations remain ongoing.”
