Southsea man charged with 12 counts of theft and assaulting an emergency worker

A MAN has appeared in court charged with 12 counts of theft and two incidents of assault on an emergency worker.

Jay Johnathan Steven Marsh, 29, of Hudson Road, Southsea, has been charged with six thefts from Co-op in Twyford Avenue, in Stamshaw, four from the Co-op on Francis Avenue, Southsea, one from the Co-op store at The Hard, Portsea, and another from the Tesco Express on London Road.

The offences took place between September 2 and 23 this year.

The two assaults allegedly happened in Burrfields Road, Copnor, on September 27.

Marsh was remanded in custody and was yesterday due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The arrest and charge of Marsh is part of Operation Monster, where officers are targeting shoplifters in the city.
