Three teenagers arrested for assault and series of thefts at a Co-op in Whiteley

POLICE have arrested three teenagers in connection with a string of thefts and an assault on a 17-year-old boy at a Co-op in Whiteley last week.

The 17-year-old was assaulted at around 5.20pm on Tuesday, November 17 outside the Co-op branch in Yew Tree Drive.

Two days later, police were informed of shoplifting taking place in the same shop.

Now officers have arrested three teenagers in connection with the two incidents, according to a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary.

He said: ‘We’ve been responding to reports of anti-social behaviour and some associated violence in the Whiteley area.

‘A 16-year-old boy from Bursledon, has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft from a shop, and possession of a class B drug. He has been bailed until 16 December.

‘An 18-year-old man from Hythe, has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and theft from a shop. He has been bailed until 18 December.

‘A 17-year-old boy from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and theft from a shop. He remains in custody at this time.’

Neighbourhood officers have been conducting patrols in the Whiteley area, and the police are encouraging anyone who has experienced issues with anti-social behaviour or associated crime to come forward.
