Two men fight in Gosport town centre before another man wades in and strikes one round head with baton

TWO men were scrapping in Gosport town centre before a third man suddenly waded in and struck one of them round the head with a baton – landing him in hospital.

Police said two men were fighting at The Precinct, South Street, between 1.55pm and 2.15pm on Thursday July 29 when another entered the melee.

‘While the two men were involved in a fight with one another, a third man approached and hit one of the men, a 35-year-old from Gosport, around the head with a weapon described as a baton,’ a police spokeswoman said.

‘The victim was taken to hospital where he received seven stitches to an open wound on his head and is now suffering from concussion.’

The man involved in the original altercation is described as white aged in his early 30s, 5ft 9in, of medium build and with short dark brown hair.

He was wearing a peaked cap and was on a pushbike which was blue or black in colour, with some white on it.

The third man, who used the baton, is described as white with tanned skin, around 5ft 9in, aged 20 - 30, of slim build, with short to medium dark brown/black hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and trousers.
