Two people charged after police chase down thieves running from Southsea skate shop

TWO people have been charged for burgling a Southsea skate shop after police officers chased down thieves seen running away with piles of clothes in the early hours.

Officers caught the pair sprinting away from Bored of Southsea, in Albert Road, with men’s hoodies and sweatshirts at 4.54am on Saturday.

An alarm could also be heard bellowing from the store.

Two people were arrested at the scene and Hampshire Constabulary said the stolen clothes were worth £943.60.

The force said two people have now been charged for burglary.

Liza Collins, 38, of Tankerton Close and Paul Jennings, 46, of Nelson Road are due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on February 25.

Police were kept busy a day later when they received a report of a man breaking the window at the Roux at 27 jewellers in Marmion Road at 8.56pm.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘A 22-year-old man has been given a conditional caution for criminal damage.

‘Nothing was stolen and no entry was gained to the jewellers.’

The action over the weekend came as police led a targeted effort to tackle commercial burglaries in Portsmouth, named Op Monster.

It came after a long spate of burglaries affected independent Southsea businesses in 2017 and 2018.
