WWII bomb found near Petersfield station - train cancellations possible on Portsmouth to London Waterloo route

South Western Railway issued the alert this afternoon

A Second World War bomb has been found on the railway and could disrupt journeys this afternoon.

All lines had to be temporarily blocked as the emergency services rushed to the scene near Petersfield railway station today (November 2). This is on the busy route between Portsmouth Harbour and London Waterloo.

“Due to a wartime bomb near the railway at Petersfield, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem,” South Western Railway said. “Response teams are on site to investigate the incident further.

“Services between Portsmouth Harbour and London Waterloo in both directions may be delayed, cancelled or revised. Some services may be diverted via Eastleigh in both directions. If you need any help with your journey, please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point. We are very sorry for any disruption to your journey.”

The company said emergency services have finished dealing with the unexploded bomb. It expects disruption to last until 3pm this afternoon.
