Fareham church welcomes in Christmas with community carol service
St Peter and St Paul’s Church, in Osborn Road, Fareham, opened its doors to members of the public as young and old came together.
The concert, in its second year, was to raise money for charities The Rainbow Centre, Shelter, ABCD and Aid To Church In Need and almost 150 packed out the church last night.

Hide AdThose there could also see the 51 Christmas trees donated by local businesses and decorated by parishioners.
Parish officer Anne Butcher said: ‘There were more people than we had in last year.
‘We spent a few months planning with quite a big team.’
Father Roger Jackson, priest at St Peter and St Paul’s, was delighted with how the service went.
Fr Jackson said: ‘There was a great atmosphere and it was wonderful to see so many people experiencing what Christmas means.

Hide Ad‘Christmas can lose its true meaning with all the rushing around and the presents, but the baby Jesus is what it is about.’
Councillor Connie Hockley, the Mayor of Fareham Borough Council, gave a reading at the service.
Cllr Hockley said: ‘The service was beautiful – it brought a tear to my eye.
‘Community events like this should happen more often.
‘It brings everyone together and I think families and older people get a lot out of it.’

Hide AdJane Meiney travelled from Ross-on-Wye for the service to join Caryl Goldstone.
Jane said: ‘We love a good sing-along and like the lively atmosphere.
Caryl added said: ‘It was a lovely service and I love supporting the community.’
