Steven Tartt, 32, from Seaforth in Merseyside, spotted the kids getting into difficulty in the pool at the Victoria Playa hotel in Santo Tomas in Menorca and jumped into action.

Mr Tartt claims the incident '˜ruined' his holiday to the popular Spanish destination and has expressed his disgust at not being '˜compensated' by holiday company TUI.

The Liverpool Echo reports that he posted a statement on social media.

It read: '˜So [I] goes on holiday in June, 3rd day of the holiday I had to jump in and help 2 drowning children, ruined the rest of the holiday because the lifeguard wasn't doing his job.

'˜Also had to take an extra week off work after it affected me that much.'

The dad-of-two added that he had spoken to TUI and thought that they would '˜at least offer something' for ruining his holiday.

Mr Tartt blames the holiday company for using a hotel that didn't hire capable staff.

He claims that he was told that because he made the decision to save the kids it was his responsibility.

Mr Tartt described TUI's decision to not offer him compensation as being '˜fobbed off' and that the way the company had handled it was '˜out of order'.

However TUI have denied the claims, a company spokesman said: '˜We're sure everyone shares our thanks to Mr Tartt for his brave actions.

'˜We're sorry to hear that he's unhappy not to have received compensation, as we felt the most appropriate support we could provide would be to offer free access to our independent partner the Centre for Crisis Psychology (CCP).

'˜We would like to reassure everyone that our hotel partner took immediate and appropriate action with the staff member involved.'Â
